Gang Member Hid 100 Heroin Bags in His Anus, Police Say

Alleged Bloods gang member charged after highway traffic stop

A traffic stop on the Palisades Interstate Parkway Thursday led police to the arrest of a gang member with 100 bags of heroin concealed in his anus, authorities said.

Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Sgt. Kley Peralta and Officer Mark Torsiello stopped a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer near Exit 4 in Alpine for having unclear license plates and an obstructed view, Lt. Michael J. Coppola said in a statement. The officers smelled an odor of burnt marijuana and were given consent to search the car, but found nothing.

The driver, 32-year-old Bloods gang member Rasoul H. Speight and his passenger, Gary T. Sylak, were taken into custody after records revealed they had outstanding traffic warrants, Coppola said.

During processing at the police station, officers discovered Speight had the heroin hidden in him, according to police. Officers also found a syringe and spoon, both covered in Heroin residue, in the liner of Sylak's jacket.

Coppola said Speight's stash has a street value of $1,000 in New York City and $2,000 in Upstate New York, where the pair were headed.
