Dwight Englewood Educator, Painter Exhibits at One River Gallery

Painter Gregg Emery, who is also the chair of the visual arts and art history department at the Dwight-Englewood School, will present “Outerscope II” a retrospective of his latest works at One River Gallery in Englewood.

“Emery’s acrylic works on muslin are seemingly simple, but radiate an athletic confidence coupled with a heartfelt introspection,” says Matt Ross, founder of One River Gallery. “The range of colors that he chooses is inspired by an equally diverse group of stimuli, including popular movies, sunset over a mall, and the things we overlook in our busy lives—even the food in front of us.”

Along with his paintings, “Outerscope” will also feature a special interactive, performance art-type presentation in which Emery—under his alter ego aplsd21—will create sketches of 100 visitors to One River Gallery. These random images will be installed as they’re created on a gallery wall. Also on display will be 100 additional sketches that aplsd21 has made of people who he’s met from around the world, and are representative of his goal of uniting people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and beliefs through art.

Emery’s paintings were recently exhibited as Chashama, a gallery in midtown Manhattan.

“Emery’s stunning colors and sweeping gestures make it impossible for you not to feel elated,” says Marc Hajjar, an instructor at New York University and Sotheby’s Institute of Art. “His practices clearly build on innovators of the past while interpreting historical acts and forms in a new way.”
