Englewood Native Wins Third NY Emmy

Emmy Award winning TV producer Todd Ehrlich added another statue to his collection on Sunday night when he won the New York Emmy Award for Team Coverage: Super Storm Sandy. He and the WCBS TV news team garnered the award for coverage of Hurricane Sandy -- the worst storm to hit the tri-state area in over a century. WCBS TV revolutionized storm coverage with their Mobil Weather Lab and the use of Mobil 2 which allows viewers to see – in real time -- how the weather is affecting a much larger area. The around the clock coverage earned WCBS TV 3 Emmy Nominations: Breaking News Coverage - Super Storm Sandy, Team Coverage – Super Storm Sandy and News Excellence – Super Storm Sandy.

Ehrlich, who grew up in Englewood  served as a producer during the coverage helping to bring the most up-to-date video to air as it came into the newsroom. He was the first on the scene to shoot the now famous “doll house” in Chelsea. The facade of the apartment building had come off totally making it appear like a life-sized doll house. It was a very dangerous assignment as debris was being blown around by gale-force winds. Ehrlich also shot flooding from the East River which made its way to 2nd Avenue on the Eastside, and captured a car that was submerged at the intersection of West 57th street and West Side Highway as the Hudson River also overflowed into the city. The triple responsibility of working in the control room, shooting, and producing video packages of the storm made the award very special to Ehrlich. This is Ehrlich's third Emmy.

During any major weather event viewers turn to their television sets to get the most up-to-date information. The round the clock coverage featured evacuation news, the latest forecasts, and a look at the damage the storm had done to the entire New York Metropolitan area.

“I’m honored to be a part of the best team in the business to bring that information to the New York market." Ehrlich said after receiving the Emmy Award.  "This year’s Emmy Award may be the most treasured of the three that I have won because it encompasses the work of the entire station.”

Todd Ehrlich has now won 3 Emmy Awards and has earned 15 nominations.
