Englewood Man Found Dead in Hudson River

City resident was reported missing in early May.

An Englewood man reported missing earlier this month was found dead Sunday in the Hudson River in Manhattan, officials said Wednesday.

Authorities found 25-year-old Curtis Aukshunas near 158th Street after responding to a report of a body in the water, police said.

The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office identified Aukshunas, but the cause of death was not yet determined, an agency spokeswoman said.

An NYPD spokeswoman would only say the death remained under investigation Wednesday afternoon.

Aukshunas was reported missing to Englewood Police May 8 and loved ones launched a social media campaign urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to call police. He was last seen leaving his office in Midtown.

The family notified supporters Wednesday night that Aukshunas' body had been recovered.

"Curtis' family is tremendously grateful to all here who have helped, shared, searched and supported throughout this terrible time," the message stated. "Currently, there are no further details to share about this tragic event. The family asks that you please respect their privacy as they mourn his passing. With deep appreciation, we thank you once again."

Sweet Curtis.........i will always remember your sweet, kind and gentle heart. The memory of you running around in my home with a superman cape around you will forever be with me and will never be extinguished from my mind. May God bless your Mother and Father, and brothers with the news of this tragic loss,...those are the ones you loved most in your life. The bond you shared with them will never dissipate. I can say with assurance because I know, for I have seen it with mine own eyes, the LOVE your Mom & Dad had for you. They were such great parents and lead you down the right path. Little Brown eyed Curtis.........Our Superman in so so many ways!

Oh no. My heart truly just fell. I read that he was missing last week. Dear Lord, I cannot imagine their pain. May God comfort them through this agonizing time. Rest in peace, Curtis.

I did not know this young man and while the facts are not known it appears he might have taken his own life . We spend billions on fighting wars outside of our borders yet we fail to provide help to our own citizens . We need to let people know that help is available . And when they do come forward we need to provide them with real assistance . My heart goes out to his family and friends .
