Police: Englewood Man Wanted On Child Abuse Charge

Another man allegedly stole jewelry, threatened to kill wife.

Englewood police are searching for a 35-year-old man who allegedly injured his girlfriend’s daughter when he threw a flat screen television in the latest violent domestic dispute reported around the city, authorities said.

Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. Saturday to a dispute in the city’s 3rd Ward where they met a 34-year-old woman who said her boyfriend, convicted felon Tremaine Alston, had hurled the flat screen in a drunken rage, according to Detective Capt. Tim Torell. The television smashed, hitting the woman’s 15-year-old daugher in the leg and injuring her.

Alston fled before officers arrived and was wanted on criminal mischief and child abuse charges, Torell said. State child welfare authorities were also alerted.

“There were a number of children in the home at the time of this incident but thankfully there were no other injuries. These types of cases rightfully require a significant amount of time and resources by police officers,” Torell said in an e-mail.

The night before, police were summoned to a 3rd Ward residence where a 52-year-old woman said her husband, Tommy Dean, threw a chair at her head and upper body, Torell said. Dean allegedly threatened to kill her and stole about $8,000 worth of her jewelry before fleeing.

Dean, identified by police as a convicted felon, returned home the next day and was arrested on charges of second degree attempted aggravated assault, third degree threat to kill and third degree theft, authorities said. Dean, 56, was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail on $16,500 bail.

Torell said investigators were working to track down the jewelry.

Last month, Englewood saw an approximately 20 percent jump in domestic violence incidents compared to the same time last year, according to a NorthJersey.com report.
