Bergen Freeholders Back Englewood Cliffs LG Headquarters Project

The $300 million LG Electronics North American headquarters project planned for Englewood Cliffs now has the full support of the Bergen County Freeholders.

Tuesday night the Freeholders unanimously adopted a resolution in support of the project.

The move followed County Executive Kathleen Donovan's announcement Tuesday that a study predicts a revenue boost for the region and the entire state will be realized in the hundred millions over a 20-year period.

“The support of the Bergen County Freeholders underscores the significant impact of the LG project on our county and our state,” said I.D. Kim, the LG Electronics USA vice president overseeing the project in a statement on Wednesday. “This project will create and retain thousands of jobs in Bergen County, and it’s expected to be the largest LEED Platinum project in the state.”

The Freeholders join a list of public officials who support the project including Englewood Cliffs Mayor Joseph Parisi Jr.,  state Senators Bob Gordon (District 38) and Paul Sarlo (District 36), County Executive Donovan and Bergen County Building and Construction Trades Council.

The project, which is expected to begin later this year, has been met with  opposition including litigation from challengers, some who are looking to preserve the Palisades claiming the 143-tall building will compromise the hard-work that went into the preservation of the area.

The county Freeholders support comes less than one month after Superior Court Judge Alexander H. Carver III upheld the Englewood Cliffs Zoning Board’s approval of the building which was granted last year.

But some groups are still trying to halt the project.
